We are now running on a new, and hopefully much-improved, server. In addition we are also on new forum software. Any move entails a lot of technical details and I suspect we will encounter a few issues as the new server goes live. Please be patient with us. Your attacking this problem with businesses not allowing open carry in their stores from the wrong angle. The first thing to do is acquire a minister license and then start a church. Your church should have a name like "The Church of the Holy open carry" or "The Church of Glock" or whatever name you want to call it. Have you flock meet a few times a year at the same location, then write your church doctrine which includes that you must always open carry a handgun or risk eternal damnation.
When a business ask you to leave or remove your handgun, you inform the business you cannot remove your pistol for religious reasons and if they insist you leave, you leave and now you have a case of discrimination of religious freedom.
Would a business ask a Jew to remove his Kippah, or a Hindu to remove his turban, heck no, for the business doesn't want the bad publicity or to get in a court case over religion and/or discrimination of any kind.

We've been making some good progress with the group. About a dozen members and now all we need is a professor to act as an advisor (the hardest part)
Yesterday the V.P of the group and I sat down with The Louisville Cardinal for an interview. They asked some great questions and are planning on doing a student poll to get the opinions of the student body.
Social outing at a local range is in the works. Any ideas on how to make it more fun? Might have to dig into my .22 stock if a bunch of new shooters show up and I'm ok with that

Work at getting some females involved - they have a special perspective and can be golden to such efforts. You may have a local chapter of Second Amendment Sisters.

The location is still to be decided. We have 3 ranges around Louisville. Open Range is a very nice indoor range, but kind of far away.
TG&G is a nearby indoor range but in poor condition while undergoing renovations.
Knobb Creek is just outside of town and is $10 for the whole day but I doubt we could have a cookout there.
The main consideration with the outing, assuming anybody even bothers to go, is cost to the students. 1 hour at any of the ranges will be roughly $50 between ammo, driving, and admission. I'm working on writing to get a grant for our group to cover food and admission but it's kind of hard when you are just starting up. I have some ideas though.
Women seem to be very interested in this group but so far the most active/interested are guys. During signups I had mostly girls' signatures (out of the 80) but when emailing/texting down the list, more guys than girls responded.

I'm at U of L also, and would be interested in getting involved/doing anything else that might be necessary.

If you read between the lines, you usually get something like "I'd rather this group didn't exist, but I have to concede that it is their Constitutionally-protected Right to assemble and express themselves, because there may be a lawsuit if I crack down on them and say how I really feel."
Best of luck on finding those passionate board members you need, too!

I don't think the Dean is too concerned with us. A LOT of students protested mandatory meal plans for ALL students (even those who would be on campus one hour a day) by walk-outs, sit-ins, media coverage, you name it. It still passed and students were charged hundreds each semester for meal plans and all the money not spent went to the university. That is very unjust, and the opposition was huge, but UofL didn't care. Sure they let students pursue all channels of action, but ultimatly they won. So for CC to change on public campuses, it would change an act of legislation. And since the AG has already given an official opinion on why campuses should be allowed to have said policies, it is an uphill battle. But, student's won't be students forever. Hopefully this will result in generations of pro-2A educated youth who will support the most important amendment

I heard the UK chapter is working with lawmakers to propose legislation so fingers crossed. The UofL chapter is still trying to get up and running. It's been dead silent this year because of a heavy work load for our group officers and faculty keeps backing out of signing on as a faculty advisor. I haven't given up! Hoping to get some momentum going this summer. Thanks gutshot for posting!
