I may be visiting Vegas soon. I understand I can carry openly with no permit in NV. How do the casinos and other tourist destinations respond to OC? Am I going to be getting kicked out of one casino and/or wedding chapel after another trying to find a place to spend my money?

Its somewhat complicated in Nevada. You should read all of the other posts on thisNevada forum for more information.

You would need to register your gun, and get a blue card. Supposedly there is a 24 hour grace period. But, carrying an unregistered firearm in Clark County would be highly unadvisable. LVMPD loves their little "blue cards". You will need to research the local ordinances in North Las Vegas, and Boulder City.

It is generally discouraged to open carry at any tourist areas near the strip. I have heardfrom LVMPD officers that they will respond to all "man with a gun calls"very seriously. You may get undue, unwanted attention, andhave your day disrupteddealing with aNevada LEO. You may become the entertainment for tourists with your face on the ground while LVMPD checks you out.

I have open carried in rural areas of Clark County, and Nevada. But, I would never dare open carry in the resort areas of Las Vegas.

You may want to consider taking a taser. I'm going to get myself a taser model C2 for carrying in California when I visit.

For expert advice, you might want to contact Jim Mayhugh directly. He has posts on this forum, and he really knows the laws, and practicalities of the law.

I echo everything Combat just wrote. Clark county is a different monster and has grandfathered ordinances that you should check out. I would strongly advise you to not OC in the tourist district of LV. If you think a casino will let you remain on site after seeing your firearm you are mistaken!

Good timing for a topic! I'm heading to Vegas tonight on the red-eye and will be there for the next week visiting with some of the woman's family. Having heard her stories of how dangerous Vegas can be (especially after the sun goes down), I intend to be carrying all the time, openly as the case is considering I only have Colorado and Texas CCWs. I'll be carrying one of her guns down there (a Colt Commander 3") that's registered in Clark County under her name, so that's done ahead of time. If anything out of the ordinary happens, I'll post about it here, including my time down on the Strip. I'll also sojourn out to Arizona and maybe Utah for a day or two, but I don't anticipate anything happening in those rural parts of the states.

It may be helpful to know that you do not need a permit (with the exception of North Las Vegas and Boulder City) to keep a fully loaded pistol concealed somewhere in your car. It can not be on your person, or concealed in something that you can carry. The gun should be registered if you are in Clark County.

Wow... Those black rifle guys need to learn some respect (nothing against black rifles).

They want real experiences. Ihad a real experience with casino security. I pulled into the Bellagio one day (probably the most upscale casino in Vegas). The security was popping trunks, and inspecting vehicles before allowing entry. That particular day I had just qualified with mypistols for the Nevada CCW. I had 4 pistols in plain view in the trunk. I also had a briefcase, and a rolled up set of construction blueprints. I was waiting for the "stuff" to hit the fan. The casino security just smiled and waved me through.

Casino security in Vegas is more intelligent than the guys on the other forum think. They realized I wasn't breaking the law, and I am just a regular guywith his familyand some guns.

Nah they were probably looking for midgets that were hiding bricks of cocaine. Either by themselves would have probably been OK.

I'm back from my trip to Vegas, with no bad interaction at all to mention. I OC'ed at beautiful Red Rock Canyon (which was posted "no loaded rifles" - they have cause to worry about poachers), down around Lake Mead, Meadows Mall, Freemont Street, and other places in Vegas itself... and on my last night there, I OC'ed down in the strip to watch the Bellagio fountain show and grab something to eat at the Forum shopping area. All I can say is that, based on my personal experience, carrying openly isn't a big deal as long as you're otherwise blending into the crowd, and that's exactly the way it should be. Granted, I didn't go down on the gaming floor of any casino in Vegas (although I walked through one in Primm without stopping to get from my room to the parking lot), but I carried in the movie theater of the Gold Coast and around the Rio without any problems. Nothing but good news!

Lake Mead is a National rec area administered by the Nat Park service. Guns are not allowed there.... also in state parks in Nevada you must carry concealed and with a permit. How did you get so lucky?
