I see people post links that are not the actual web address.
How is that done?
I don't even know what to Google to learn.

i believe what you are talking about is hyper linking or inline linking see below but i do not know how to useit in this forum
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperlink
You can always use TinyUrl.com or Bitly.com
Or put the actual URL in the form of (url=longunweildlyURLnamegoeshere)shortername(/url) ... using [ and ] of course.
And of course the handy-dandy stand-by... lmgtfy.com, lmgtfy of course being Let Me Google That For You.
Relatively simple really:
SAMPLE:
I want to direct you to our organization here.
Open new window to the desired site, copy the web address
http://www.vcdl.org/
Now paste the web address where you want it in the sentence w/o deleting anything
I want to direct you to our organization here http://www.vcdl.org/.
Now insert the word "here" in the middle of the web address
I want to direct you to our organization here http://herewww.vcdl.org/.
And last delete everything on the modified web address except the word "here"
I want to direct you to our organization here.
Walla! In sentence above here = http://www.vcdl.org
Preview to make sure that everything has gone according to plan, then submit/post.
There may be an easier way, but this seemed the simplest to explain. On an excessively long web page address, you can enter it, then preview it (a must do) then edit out a bulk of the address just leaving key words and it will appear as a link to the original. Note if you don't "preview it", the result will be a broken link.
So, basically, once the hyperlink is created, you can change the text, without changing the link. Thank you for that step by step.
You can also just write the sentence you want, containing the word or words you want to use for the link target, select the word or words, and use the link tool at the top of the editor window (it looks like a globe with a chain link on it) to finish the linking process.
Maybe this should be a sticky; it is the user manual for the editor we all must use to post on this forum. All is revealed here; probably more than you wanted to know.... :shocker:
