Carrying to and from your room, in a case is considered concealed and without a CCW would be illegal.

Brandishing is defined as: 1. to shake or wave (as a weapon) menacingly or 2. to exhibit in an ostentatious or aggressive manner displaying your weapon in a threatening or menacing manner. Both of these key on the fact that your action is threatening and/or menacing.

There is no statute for "brandishing" in Nevada. It called something else. I'll try to see if I can find the statute.

Ok....so how the heck do I get from my hotel room, to the street, and vice-versa?

Seriously? an unloaded gun in a closed case would be considered illegal? That's even crazier than Canada's transport laws. How bout if I had a lock on the case, or a trigger lock on the gun?

I don't usually advocate breaking the law. But honestly, this one, as written, is a known oversight, and not enforced. I prefer cases that are as nondescript as possible, mostly for anti-theft reasons.

When you buy a gun, it is concealed in a box as you leave the store.
Also, it is illegal to OC in a post office, but you can conceal a firearm in a box and mail it (in several circumstances.)

Can I Conceal a Firearm Without a Permit?

Without a CCW permit, a firearm may be concealed in your home or vehicle as long as it is not on your person, concealed by your person, or in a personal item (such as a purse, backpack, briefcase) carried by you.

Sorry I guess I was wrong. :uhoh:

I was sure I read you can on your property, maybe I was told wrong or read it wrong.

Thank you for the clarification,
Jim

It is a violation to carry in any manner in a Post Office or on the property thereof.

Follow this interesting case that my well change that. :D

Are you saying you can't mail a firearm? You most certainly can.

Because I did not mean to imply that any other kind of "carry" in the post office was legal, and I don't think I did imply that.

No - did not make such a blanket statement. No carry generally does not equate to not being able to mail.

You stated the one could not OC in a PO - I was pointing out that any form of carry was a violation.

Since apparently your state considers "in a box" as concealed carry, then there is an interesting dilemma I'd say.

And that was the context of my correct post.

We have that issue in Canada too... You are allowed to mail firearms through Canada Post however... but, you don't identify the package at all, so it's just mail, until it is opened... In Canada, a person needs a license in order to have a gun in their possession, but the mail carrier can carry it, and as long as it's still wrapped up, it is considered mail, and my wife (not licensed) can pick it up for me....

Well, yes and no.
...You cannot ship handguns with USPS.

Actually, I can. I hold an FFL. Unlicensed individuals can only mail long guns. Keep in mind that an FFL and a CCW are independent and one can easily have the former without the latter.

I was not intending a debate about HOW to ship via USPS, only mentioning that it was possible and it was yet another example of how we can break the very poorly written state law, the USPS conflicting policies here notwithstanding.

EDIT:
Also, my reading so far leads me to believe that it is federally legal to mail any firearm (including handguns) to yourself when travelling.

I apologize for my terse post that was easy to misread.

Soooooo...... to get from hotel room to street or my rental car.... I either have to find a back stairwell and OC, or put it in a backpack/range bag until I get to the street/parkade and take my chances with the CC issue, or ???

I know once I'm on the street, with it in holster im ok, or once im in my rental car on the way to Front Sight im ok... it's just that pesky "hotel/casino" thing that is a mystery.

So once again back to my same answer, without any difficult examples this time.

I'm not one to advocate breaking the law, but I have never heard of a cased firearm being enforced as a concealed weapon. Just one of many laws that our government writes so that we can all be lawbreakers.

I'd also like to take issue with the underlined portion here. Is that in the statute or someone's interpretation? I'm going with the latter.

After all, what would this mean?

Thank you.
You guys are great.
Ya, Canada does that too with our gun laws, but at least you get to carry.

My wife made an interesting comment on this. Let's say I was going to take a revolver into the police station to blue card it and I put it in a open box with no lid? Would that be concealed? Would it satisfy the police in their insistance that it is in a case?

Hmmmmm!

I have never taken any of mine in a case. Always action open and carried in my hand. Never had any of the ladies give me any problem with it either.

I OC'd at Smith's on N.Durango and Elkhorn, and at the America First CU inside Smith's; also, carried at Wal-Mart on Tropical at Centennial Center. No problems at any of the places.

One of these days I'm going to get my stolen pistol back from the Sparks police. As I will already have a loaded gun holstered on my hip, I'll carry it out bagged but unconcealed in one of these:
