Unfortunately, with my mode of dress for this day and with my holster, it is going to HAVE to be OC. It is OWB and so there is no way around that.

They are going to have to deal with the fact that I will be well dressed and wearing an openly carried firearm.

Well, then, do not be surprised if you are the guy on the 5 o'clock news who is being escorted out of the hearing room.

Just sayin'.
If they ask, I will produce my CPL. But yes, if they tell me to leave, then I will.

So, worst case is they ask/tell you to leave? My dress code includes a 9mm hand gun. But as you mentioned, you will loose this round. Thanks for the info, Workman. We gotta use our heads on these kind of things.

Dress well, talk respectably. They already try to paint us as bad guys or nuts with guns. So what if the news focus's on you as long as you present yourself well. You just might end up looking like the martyr and gain public empathy.

If I could make it I would be joining you OC. If it isn't legal in the building don't carry there, of course. But if it is legal and they escort you out they have just broken the law. Especially if you go peacably and are acting as a fine outstanding citizen who just so happens to be publicly armed.

I don't think this is a place for sign waiving or shouting, maybe some discrete pamphlet handing out. Hope all goes well.

I agree dress well ,The wannabes can leave the tactical crap at home.I will probably have a tie and sport coat. When i was in Vietnam we won our battles because being on the enemies ground we adopted their tactics against them. There will no doubt be media there and on this day image is going to play a huge roll in how we are percieved.Right or wrong it is what it is.They are probably hoping someone will make a scene and say see how can we allow these nuts to own guns?.Now that being said we have to make it abundantly clear that the ones pushing these anti Constitutional issues will have no more career in politics come election time. Remember Jersey ,and Mass.Folks are getting tired of rights being stomped onand their policies forced down our thoats.

IANAL. Having said that, to the best of my recollection you can carry there. Seeing as how RCW 9.41 is quoted, my best interpretation is that the intent is that you can carry concealed there. Thanks Swatspyder for posting WAC 236-12-470. Somehow it didn't quite make the cut on my post.

This being an open carry state, you should be able to carry open there. The down side to that is given WAC 236-12-470, whoever is providing security maymake an issue of this. I think it would be better tohave as many pro-gunfolks in there as we can get rather than risk having some turned away or made an issue of.

I agree with Dave Workman on this one. That day's focus should be on the AWB bill. Open carry may not work as well for us there as it couldjustify the worst fears of those on the committee who might otherwise be receptive to arguments against the AWB bill. I'm not going open carry because should I get the opportunity to testify, I want them looking at me and listening, not fixating on the pistol on my hip or someone else's hip. I'm not going with an AR-15 slung over my shoulder either even though that is the topic. These legislators are making these bills in part because they fear guns. Showing up at "their" hearing with guns on display won't ease their mind or help to change their decision. We get one shot at this and it would be better to default to putting our best foot forward.

Actually, DEROS72, going to Starbucks or some other locale after the hearing might not be a bad idea. Maybe some of us could meet up after this.

I will be wearing my leather pancake specifically to avoid any 'tacti-cool' impressions that my Serpa may give... lol

This got changed,I believe yesterday, on street parking and lack of parking became a issue and suggested we just meet at the front of the building.

Is there a realistic number of legal citizens from this site going?

subject RE: Constituent: Banning the sale of assault weapons

Dear Mr. S****s,

Thank you for writing about your concerns with Senate Bill 6396. Rest assured, I do not intend to support this bill. While there are problems with these weapons getting in the wrong hands, I believe this bill needs more work. Specifically we must address who is obtaining these assault weapons and where they are coming from, before I plan on supporting legislation to ban sales.

Thank you again for your concerns, and I encourage you to continue writing with any comments or concerns in the future. Have a great day.

Sincerely,
Sen. Rosa Franklin

Andrew,

As I always say, the best gun control is to place a gun firmly in the hand of a law abiding citizen. If that’s not enough, then said citizen should use both hands.

I will not support anything else.

At least eight (including myself) that I have listed below have said they WILL be there:
  • swatspyder
  • Deros72
  • Orphan
  • Squeak
  • Just Us
  • slowfiveoh
  • Red Ryder
  • TechnoWeenie
Three most likely will go:
  • Richard6218
  • amzbrady
  • CmptrGuru
I am pretty sure there are going to be a WHOLE LOT of people at the testimony... There are two Facebook groups with over 1000 people on each who are against this bill.

So I wrote back....

Senator Franklin,
I thank you for your reply. I would hope that there is no more work to be done on this bill and it never rears its head again. To legally obtain one of these weapons all one must do is go to the dealer, fill out the required paperwork, pass the required background check, pay the money and take it home. The issue is that criminals do none of the above, which is why we need better laws against the criminals not the rest of us who have had to go through numerous background checks. I alone hold a passport, an enhanced drivers license, a Washington Concealed Pistol License, a non-resident New Hampshire & Utah concealed license as well as a Security clearance from the US Government. That is 6 separate background checks in the last 5 years. What else must I do to ensure that according to Article 1, Section 24 of the Washington State Constitution; The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired. I don't see where it says first a permit or background check is necessary or even a certain caliber or style. I see the words "Shall Not Be Impaired."

It's time to fix the laws on criminals and either keep them in jail or see to it they never commit another offense.

Thank you,
Bill S****s
