No worries Kelly J. IMO it's a gray area not really covered by the forum rules. To me, it was a lot of 'off topic' post but it's not my website and I am not forced to read them either and I didn't. :)

I think that is really the point. Nobody is forced to read ANY forum, thread, or post here. I think a separate area for any topic people want to discuss is appropriate. If people don't want to read it they don't have to.

Look at it this way. In order to get the word out on OC, we need to talk to people. If having an area for general topics draws people in and gets them talking to the other threads, that is a good thing. It also helps make this group look more diverse. While this is a fairly single issue place, but no one here is a single issue person.
Regards

Not defending or pointing, a finger at anyone; I did look at the subject matter on several pages, and was under the impression that a political post was not any more OT, than some of the others I had read, but point well taken, I was out of line, and have tried to correct that error.

You understand that you just opened the door to LEO229 discussing the proper handbag for formal attire, his opinion of movies like "Brokeback Mountain," andthe male Oscar winners he finds most desirable? :)

The problem is that when you start taking a pro-RKBA website and turn it into a pro-Republican or pro-Conservative website, you start making people who may be pro-RKBA but do not share your other political views feel excluded. There are gay members on this forum, as well as diehard Democrats, and others who are not usually thought of as part of the RKBA movement.

An off-topic section may let these folks have at it without distracting the main function of OCDO.

It would also give us a place to BS about other stuff that nothing to do with either RKBA or general politics, stuff like movies, hobbies, etc. Many OCDO members are friends or aquaintances offline, but OCDO is the main "gathering" place, since we often live too far away to meet on a regular basis.

Kelly's posts on immigration had their place in the politics section, and immigration does have it's place in a forum discussingOC asthese people will eventually have some control over our basic civil rights. The fact that there is a political section is an open invitation for such posts. It is very easy to ignore the post by simply not opening them. Do they have any relevance toour subject of choice? Definitely!

As for the different political and social backgrounds represented on this forum: I don't think that the forum has has skewed to once side or the other, given the topic we have chosen to present. Of course, the true left and socialistic point of view will never provide asupporting point on any part of this board, as the right to bear arms contradicts some major arguments inin their agenda.

I am glad that we do have such a diverse group. It promotes stimulating and dynamic discussion. The topics themselvesshould not be removed, however if the tie in to our board is not clear, the moderator should request an explanation to how this topic provides some insight or relation to OC andthe 2nd. If this can not be done, then the moderator should respectfully lock the thread until one can be provided. This is all in the interest of saving board space.

My $.02 + :celebrate

Tomahawk makes a great point that speaks to the diversity of American gun owners and RKBA supporters. We come from all walks of life, all religions, all income levels and at all levels of society and that is our true strength. That is what the opposition can't imagine - that when they attack us, they're attacking a complete cross-sectional representation of America.

There is a lot of debate over nothing here as I have said I was not going to post any more topics that did not directly relate to Guns or Open Carry. I have never in my life broken my word, it is my bond, and I uphold, it is very close to my heart.

I have gone back and removed as many post as I could find and if I missed any just let me know and I will take then out.

I made a mistake thinking that after reviewing some of the topics I read on the Forum that even though the topic was not on Open Carry that some leeway was permitted, and I just got carried away, for that I have appoligized and removed the offending post what more can I do to get the forum back on a normal track without this back and forth.

Respectfully, enough is enough!

KellyJ, you are indeed a man of your word and I thank you for that. I can only guess that perhaps not everyone read your statement.I hope everyone else feels as I do that that it's a dead issue.

Idea for a new fourm : KELLY'S KORNER

Thanks for the kind words but in light of the friction I have caused the suggestion of a new Forum: Kelly's Korner would go over like a lead Balloon.

But it does sing kind of like Provo's Privy, from the Movie the Green Beret’s, even similar subject matter.

I for one appreciated Kelly J as a lone watchman ringing the bells in the tower warning of impending doom. You sir are a true American!

As Colin Quinn once stated, "its all right to celebrate our diversity as long as we don't point out that people are different." While it is true that we a diverse in many ways, we should not fear alienating one another. Forums come and go, and I think that so far OCDO has been successful because of the free exchange of intelligent debate without overmoderation. As different people, we may disagree on many things, but it shouldn't be frowned upon as disrupting the collective thinking. Our strengths should come from our wide sprectrum of differences channeled in a positive direction.

I stand down from my soapbox at this time. I like OCDO as it is. :celebrate

The various forums here need a great deal MORE moderation.

I for one am sick and tired of reading:

- HUGE, sometimes multi-coloredquoted sections of previous poster(s) posts in order to reply, either at length or to say simply say "I agree" - a visual, time, and topical waste

- online squabbling or diatribes by users; especially HankT, HawkFlyer, and LEO229 - whose egos seem to be only exceeded by their post lengths

- continual unmoderated off-subject posts in various threads, forcing one to unwatch a topic so as not to continue to waste time checking on the latest (junk) post

- a resilient and continuing presence of trolls - which speaks for itself

IMHO, all of the above things are atotal waste of bandwidth, are very irritating, and greatly devalue the resource that is OC dot org's forums.

I was initially thrilled to find this board, but as time goes on I am increasingly discouraged by the content of/presence of certain posts, lack of moderation, and actually a lack of guidance and form from this forum's initiators in pursuit of whatever goals (!) were initially in mind when it was created.

This board could be so much more. >sigh<

I would suggest trying the "recent" tab instead of watched topics. I used to do it your way, but it didn't seem to work right and I was missing alot of stuff.

I have and continue to use both methods, with little luck.

Please stick around. I agree with your frustration, but I think it will return when we stop responding to those threads and start new relevant threads.

I am sorry for personally wasting your time here having to read the arguments that I often find myself in. I too enjoy a meaningful conversation and the passing of valuable information. I really do enjoy being able to help others and do not mind answering questions.

The last thing I really need is to have to defend myself and get into an argument. If you look... I may say things that end up in an argument based on my opinion. Things will always get a little heated with you feel strongly about something.

Then there are people here who want to bash others. They make disparaging remarks like you did here referring to us as having egos. This of course is your opinion and that is fine with me.

I am also sorry for having so many posts but I do chat here on a daily basis. I carry on lengthly conversations and I would like to believe I make this a fun place to hang out. There are times when this place gets a little dull but then I end up saying something that sparks a huge interest and gets people talking and thinking out load again.

Stay if you like.... read and respond.... have fun. :)
