As a college student, I use facebook religiously. I was thinking of creating a group on facebook tied to our organization. Are there any objections to this? Unless you are a subscriber to facebook, you won't be able to see it. You DO NOT have to be a college student to join facebook for those who aren't members. I will post a link to it when I get it done.

BTW: Do any of you guys have an experience with graphics or design? I think we need a logo or something. I'd work on one, but my expertise is more in the legal department than design .

Here is a description of the group listed on the page on Facebook if you are not a member of facebook or cannot access it otherwise:

This group is the facebook extension of the newly forming Alabama Firearm Rights Association, a pro-2nd amendment organization interested in Civilian and Law Enforcement education about Alabama firearms law and safety as well as the pursuit of legislation designed to clarify current Alabama gun laws and to further the right of the citizens of this great state to keep and bear arms for defense and/or sporting purposes. Though many people assume that Alabama is a "gun-friendly" state because of Southern culture, this is not always the case. A quick glance over the Code of Alabama will quickly bring anyone to the realization that AL gun laws are confusing, vague, contradictory, or downright ignored by Law Enforcement personell.

Our organization is in its infancy. We have a very small member base scattered all over the state. We are a group whose founders range from age 19 to 50. We come from different backgrounds and occupations. The one thing we have in common is that we all believe that the right to bear arms is of utmost importance. All Alabama residents interested in preserving your God given right to keep and bear firearms are welcome.

We do not discriminate based on the type/intended purpose of a particular kind of firearm. In a rural state like Alabama, there are many gun owners who are only interested in sporting guns (deer rifles, shotguns, etc...). The Alabama Firearm Rights Association believes that private citizens have as much right to own and use an AR-15 tactical rifle as they do to own a Remington 870 Shotgun. We are interested in upholding the premise of UNINFRINGED firearm ownership.

Alabama Firearm Rights Assocation in no way supports efforts to legalize gun ownership for convicted felons, drug addicts, habitual drunkards, the mentally ill, illegal immigrants, or any other group that it has been deemed unlawful to possess firearms.

Though much of our efforts are currently focused on the issue of Open Carry of handguns in this state, this is not our only focus. Our group is dedicated to furthering all aspects of the pro-firearm agenda. If you live in Alabama, own firearms, and believe in the Constitution of the United States, you will find yourself in good company as a member of our group.

While the founders of our group are extremely serious about Alabama gun laws and are as knowledgeable as we can be, we ARE NOT LAWYERS. We CANNOT provide you with legal advice, and the legal information provided by us should be verified by the recipient by reading the laws yourself or by contacting a licensed attorney.

I will soon be posting a copy of Alabama firearm laws on the group. They will be pulled directly from an online copy of the Code of Alabama of 1975 (the current criminal code in use by Alabama Law Enforcement and Courts) viewable here at http://www.legislature.state.al.us/CodeofAlabama/1975/coatoc.htm. (Most firearm laws can be viewed under Title 13, section 11).

For the time being, the best way to communicate with the founders of this group is to join the web forum listed below and post an introduction and your question/comment under the Alabama forum. It's free to join, and you will meet a very knowledgeable group of people who can help you with any questions you may have regarding firearms and the 2nd amendment (I post under the alias "vmathis12019"). You may also message me personally on facebook.

Though we are not affiliated directly with this organization, the founders of ALFRA all met and interact on the online pro-2a forum site http://opencarry.org . If you would like to meet any of the members of our group, feel free to join the forum and introduce yourself under the Alabama section of the Forum. You will find we are very welcoming, knowledgeable, and passionate about our cause. We would also be glad to hear/see any suggestions you might have for the organization.

We are also not directly affiliated with Students for Concealed Carry on Campus (http://concealedcampus.org); however, this is also an important issue that we intend to focus our efforts on when we get the organization off the ground.

The domain for our future website has been purchased and is being hosted by one of the members who has Server access. While the site is currently under construction and not yet completed, this is a big step to getting our message out.

Actually... I do support firearms ownership for the convicted felons, drug addicts, habitual drunkards, the mentally ill... (not for illegal immigrants, although I don't mind for legal immigrants.. even before citizenship)

That doesn't mean I think people like that should own firearms. The court system should be fixed to prevent unsafe persons from being on the street. If they are too dangerous to possess a firearm... they are too dangerous to possess a pointy stick.

I know my opinions are 'unrealistic' and would offend many people, so I recognize not having that as the organization's interest. That's just my personal opinion.

Oh, and I should update my facebook picture. It's from before I even graduated high school

Hey vm, on the Facebook site of ALFRA where it list members, is there anyway to put my avatar there by my name instead of that very nice looking question mark? I mean its cool and all but would rather see my Heart of Dixie. Thanks, Karl

up on the top of the facebook page, you will see a heading that says PROFILE and right next to it the word "Edit"

Click Edit

A new page will pop up with several headings running across the top, click on picture. Upload it just like you did on the boards here (you have to check the little box that says you didn't steal the photo/it isn't porn or it won't work).
