Back on after several years. Surprised how slow it is.

Decided to check out the forum after several years of not being on. Things have definitely changed a lot. Certainly WAY less active than it was back when I was reading often (2009 - 2015ish). Especially in my State Forum (Washington)

Just thought I would take a moment to say hi. Looking forward to seeing some of the old posters and new ones as well.

When did things slow down so much?

When I was on the forum a lot there were ads but they were not as obtrusive as they seem to be now. I do remember problems with Spam post back then but they were usually removed pretty quickly. Without active moderation I could see how it spiraled out of control very quickly.

Even though it may be a shadow of its former self I still owe a huge debt of gratitude to this forum, John and Mike, and the top mods and posters from back then. They worked hard and really helped the movement back then. They were a huge help to firearm rights and rights in general.

Welcome back.

Mike seems to have stepped away completely, and John is seldom involved.

Some of our most valuable members have passed on, RIP.

Others grew frustrated by excessive moderation (anonymous moderation without recourse, which made it worse). About the time most people gave up and moved on, all of a sudden there was no moderation at all. Rule 6 got tossed right out the window.

I am still here because I hope OCDO can someday be what it once was: the best gun-rights forum in the world.

Okay, so I'm a dreamer. I'll still be here until someone pulls the plug.

That's true because John refuses to remove cocked@locked.

CoL - it shouldn't be limited to C&L as it takes two (or more) to flood the forum.
Having realized that certain people are brash and braggarts, I just ignore them for the most part.
The biggest problem that I see now is all the spam posts that aren't being deleted. Gun Rights Media has had the same problem for the last couple of years and it seems as if nobody actually posts anything gun related there any more.
Sad.

I don't believe there has been a moderator since my beloved Dale (aka Grapeshot); during the many months before his passing , he was working with John to find a replacement - to no avail. It's a tough job that Dale exceeded at, especially with the spammers. He monitored the site daily and took care of spammers right away - that was his first priority. Dale also had the time to spend on OCDO, posting, moderating, etc. It is extremely difficult to find someone who can take the time that is needed. If anyone has any suggestions, let John know! He will work with you as best he can - John is extremely busy, but this is his site and he cares what happens! On another note, I agree that the activity of good conversational posts has declined. Here in Virginia, I don't see much at all. I still enjoy checking the site daily though.

Be on the lookout for posts announcing the monthly Greater Richmond OC Dinners. which we hope to resume in April.

Let’s talk about CT gun law and how long it would take me to get what I need for a suppressor.

a couple of suggestion(s) D......
1. This is an open carry site not how to site...
2. If you feel this subject is germane then post your query in the appropriate subheading!

as for your query re CT firearm laws...might check that specific state's sub-forum for guidance or handgunlaw.us!

We are so glad having found the web page, it's toally the thing my friends from work and I have been dreaming for. The specifics here on the web site is beneficial and needed and is going to assist me several times a week. It shows that everyone acquired a large amount of details about the things I am interested in and other pages and information like wise show it. I'm usually not on the internet during the night but when I get a break im more often than not avidly searching for this type of factual information and stuff closely concerning it. I have two of my friends that have developed a liking in this because of all that I have learned about it and they're definitely to be visiting this site because it's such an work changing score. I'm also interested in government issues and coping with the constant twists and turns in world politics. When someone gets a chance, have a look at my site: PNW Wedding Photographer
