Costco OC experience

First post..this place is very informative.

I have OC'd in this costco(99th & McDowell) multiple times prior to today. I did not see any signs as I always look anywhere I go into.

Today I went in, walked all over the place for like 20 mins. My ppq was very visible the whole time.

I then go to check out and upon the cashier handing me my receipt he leans over and quietly lets me know that weapons are not allowed in the store. I then tell him I have been in here multiple times prior to today while OC'ing. He then says, well if one of the managers sees you they'll probably say something.

I said ok thanks and went on my way. I don't know if this was an isolated incident or their staff is not on the same page because I walked past plenty of employees while I was there.

Apparently none of them were managers.

Welcome to OCOD from a neighbor to the north. I spent a couple of summers and a semester in Tucson while completing my school work some 20 years back. I'm now in the Salt Lake City area.

There are a couple of recent threads on this very topic; though neither is specific to Arizona.

Apparently, if you read through the fine print of your Costco membership agreement, all privately carried guns are banned.

In Utah, such private gun policies at businesses have no force of law so I've never bothered to look very carefully for where in the agreement this language shows up. I just untuck my shirt or put on my jacket (depending on the weather) and CC or casually CC while in Costco. My gun has never been noticed, at least never mentioned.

Others choose to boycott Costco.

At the very least, you should double check your State laws and make sure that carrying in a business in violation of a poorly notified "no gun" policy doesn't violate any laws before carrying into such a location.

It is unquestionably the store policy.

In some states, it may not be as enforced by management as in other states. Either way, many have decided not to patronize a company that has made their policy so clear.

I suggest you switch to Sam's Club. I used to be a Costco customer until I was made aware of their firearms policy. Now, Sam's gets my money.

The Costcos is NoVA got so bad the door greeters/membership checkers know to deny entry right off the bat. YMMV.

Well this is where I thought i woulda been stopped in the first place....but nope, made my whole shopping trip without anyone saying anything. Except cashier.

welcome to the forum, you will discern the knowledge base is exemplary...however there are exceptions...

OP, to be clear, what you are being told by this member is that they quote poorly CC their firearm unquote onto private property knowing full well it is against the property owner's direct wishes... just because it is more convenient to this member.

That was a nice checker, going out of her way to try and help you avoid having problems in the future.

Good example of Costco's exemplary customer service.

Unlike Congress... YOU should READ the contract BEFORE you SIGN the contract.
Unlike Congress... Costco doesn't HIDE the contract until after you sign it.

If you want to get properly butt hurt over this, get mad they allow civilian police to carry but not civilian non-police.

Demand equal treatment, demand cops disarm before entering

At the very least demand they modify their LEO exemption to allow them to carry firearms within the store "only in response to an emergency call."

I personally don't care what Costco does. They have the best and cheapest hot dogs in the world, which makes a lot of their liberal sins forgivable. Walmart's club on the other hand, has no redeeming qualities.

Damm I forgot that part.... The cashier did say "only allowed if I had a badge".

I'll admit I'm guilty of not reading the fine print. I did not recall not being allowed to carry in their store. I'll gladly abide by their rules. I just can't believe I made it as long as I did before I was told something.

Don't assume its in the agreement simply because you see a list on their website. We'd need a current copy they use now… which has a lot more than a short list of rules like that web page.

My point has nothing to do with what their wishes on firearms are… yes we know they are anti-gun

The point is, are they making this clear, or are they trying to get people to join while hiding this, so they can try to play both sides. They didn't make it clear I became a member, as they didn't mention it at all.

You don't go through a membership information package, sign everything and become a member, and then think, "oh I bet they left things out of all this information I signed, I better go check the website to see if they have any more rules!"

They have a policy they don't (or didn't) make clear. They put it on 1 spot on their website most people aren't going to search for, don't tell people when signing up, and don't post the stores. My comment on checking current membership information you get in person to actually go through and sign is that they may have changed the info and have it listed now, even if they didn't a few years ago…

Same here. Went last Friday to get ready for our BBQ we had this last weekend, spent over $400 (ouch!). That's $400 that the antigunners at Costco will never see. :banana:

And on top of that: Sam's has Nathan's Hot Dogs for $1.25 ($1.50 with a Root Beer) Win!
