it was a lot of fun. i bought a pretty rough hi point 995 carbine for $100. i didn't stay too long and after i left there were a lot of great buys like a rand remington 1911a1 with leather holster for $200... valued at up to $2000

Wow - some cops are bummed tonight! ;) Hey SLM call Hi-Point @ 419-747-9444 and tell them you are having (FTF / FTE etc...) issues. Send the carbine and all the mags in. You will get back a refurbed gun & possibly all new mags + a free mag to cover your shipping. So in the end you'll have $120 invested in a pretty decent plinker. I have the 45 & 40 cal carbines & they are well worth every penny in my book. :)

I don't say this often...I'm jealous. I've been thinking of either the Hi Point carbine or one of the Kel-Tec sub 2000s for a "just because" gun. Haven't seen any around here for sale; that price is unbelievable, too.

Just sold a Sub2000 yesterday (Only one I have seen this year)... had it in my possesion for a whole 45 minutes .... guy came to buy a PMR 30 and he saw the Sub2000 I was checking in... Pulled out the 100$ bills

I have both.! The sub2000 are very hard to find (have been for years) they are great for travel and fold to fit in a small gym bag. The sights SUCK & there is no last round hold open. If you do get one always check the front plastic post to make sure it has not moved up or down. The HP carbines have better steel sights, but you can't run stick mags - however pro-mag makes the HPA4 & A5 mags to fit the 45 (14rd) & 40 (15rd) both work well in my experience.

There is another way to get a similar result. New slide, threaded barrel, tack weld an extension on it for ATF barrel length compliance. The new slide is important, because the barrel and extension are now permanently stuck unless they are cut apart. Add a quick detach stock and happy sticks. All set.

they didn't just swindle them. they were ripping them off. they were going to take those valuable antiques and other nice guns home... you know they were. it's just a shame they got the AR15

Considering how many cities are without funds in that area, I really wonder who is handing out the cash? If it was the police Union or other PRIVATE group that is using the image of it being a public service buy in then there maybe a legal problem (maybe as I don't remember Michigan law on officers in uniform and misrepresentation to the public). Anyway the officer is way out of line and not a bit of legal authority with the crap he is trying. Now having someone on that side of the sidewalk without a firearm offering to buy and asking folks to step across the street would have removed the "weapons" issue and still had some able to directly make contact with the possible sellers.

Just my two cents and look forward to supporting these once we get back to Michigan. -Michael

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe the funding may have been sponsored. I will see if Rick knows. And yes, he never actually gave a clear order to go somewhere else. If you notice, he made a lot of suggestions like "we WANT you over there." Ultimately, the place they had us stand was far better because we could intercept cars on their way in. Kind of funny that they didn't realize it.

Great job Gentlemen. You did something good. I, too, am a bit green over the .45. I carried an identical weapon in SE Asia in the late '60s and early '70s. That pistol always worked for me and saved my sorry a$$ on many occasions. You have a solid piece of history that needed to be saved not destroyed.

Awesome - that is one of the old model (non TS [target stock] ) that had the chome finish. Those are rare compared to the normal powder coat. Yeah for a $100 you did well.
