First off, some background about myself; I'm a freedom loving nevadan, the end.
So I'm taking an english 101 class at antelope valley college in lancaster. I'm thinking, okay great, I'm going to expand my knowledge and secure my future through the local schools.
Well I was enlightened. The text book required for my english class is called, "the norton reader" (published london, go fricken figure the socialists).
In my honest opinion, text within schools should be nonbiased, meaning if you present an essay on one side of the arguement, enter a second in the text refuting it.
Mind you, the purpose of the text book is to show essay structure, EVERY single essay is on a political topic, for example the book presents pro-abortion, but nothing to refute, etc.
Now on to the point, an essay in here really pissed me off, it's called Get a knife, "get a dog, but get rid of guns" by molly ivins. Now of course, no refute showing proper essay structer to follow it.
Now I wonder, and you californians can answer this, are anti-constitution books all over the damn schools out here, and are they thought-washing the next generations with this shit?
I'm sitting in class and my ENGLISH teacher has referenced Karl Marx twice in her lecture, and I've heared nothing of a thomas jefferson or ben franklin.
My concern is that;
A: the youth, YOUR CHILDREN are getting biased texts presented and you don't even know about it
B: i've no real avenue to express my concern for the future, as I'd just be laughed at.
I'm required to do a research paper due next week. I'm going to call it "Deconstitutionalizing America Through miseducation" I'm going to use this text book and the instructor as a source in her own assignment.
