I got this email today:
Dear Ray,
I received a press release from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino who head up the Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition. An excerpt from the press release is below:
"Today, Al Qaeda issued a video message featuring Adam Gadahn, an American-born member of the terrorist group, urging followers to commit violent acts of jihad by exploiting weaknesses in U.S. gun laws and the gun background check system.
According to Gadahn, “America is absolutely awash with easily obtainable firearms. You can go down to a gun show at the local convention center and come away with a fully automatic assault rifle without a background check and, most likely, without having to show an identification card. So what are you waiting for?”
Watch the complete video.
For years we have fought for tougher regulations, licensing and enforcement to protect the people of North Carolina and the United States. We all know that gangs, the criminally insane, domestic abusers and others have taken advantage of the weaknesses in our gun laws. Now we have to add a more dangerous enemy into the mix - terrorists who wish to use our loopholes to commit acts of jihad.
Our current legislature cannot afford to turn a blind eye to Al Qaeda's latest call for violence. Please consider donating today so that we can take our message of common sense regulations to the political leaders of this state.
With your financial support we will make North Carolina, and the United States, safer for all of our citizens. As Mayor Bloomberg said this morning, “The terror statement released today is absolutely accurate in one respect: terrorists and other criminals can easily buy guns in the United States with no background check, and no questions asked. This video may help Washington understand that weak gun laws aren’t just a crime problem, they’re a national security threat."
With your continued support we will help legislators in Raleigh and Washington, D.C. understand that we cannot allow the loopholes in our system to stand any longer - our safety depends on it.
Thank you,
Roxane Kolar, Executive Director
P.S.- Please donate today to help send a message to our legislators that North Carolinians support common sense gun laws that will help protect our state and our nation.
