first, the Honolulu PD is correct in what their letter stated regarding possession of firearms and using marijuana or any illicit substances ~ against federal statutes. (USC 922(g)(3))

(The penalty for violating this law is ten years imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine) if convicted by court of law!

so the Honolulu police are taking it upon themselves to enforce Federal statutes? quite unusual in and of itself but remember HI’s firearm ownership statutes are quite onerous almost meeting NYC or the Windy City strictness and citizens requiring a permit to purchase and CC permits are may issue!

not sure which point the Chief is making ~ she doesn’t like the firearms in her city or is upset w/legalization and proliferation of marijuana in Honolulu?

A rather moot point, I think. From what I've read, Hawaii doesn't issue CC "permits" to anyone - except bodyguards to celebrities, perhaps. I have relatives in Hawaii (never been there and won't be going), and they say they've never heard of anyone who wants to own a gun, much less carry one. But from other things they tell me, nearly everyone uses cannabis. Must grow there like a damned weed or something! LOL

Their choice to live there, obviously.

I know this is an old post but..I work for the tax collectors office and had an applicant that tried to show me his medical marijuana card as his primary ID ,he still applied after producing his fl dL ...No idea if the State sent him a CWP or not , we only process and renew CWPs.

The gov has no business regulating a plant that has many medicinal uses with much less risk than big pharma money makers.

Yes it is.......So now more focus will be on the 2A infringements. You see, they don't make enough money on fees and tax stamps, so they are creating a scene, then eventually infringed laws, tax everything associated to firearms in the name of public interests.

Anybody who takes drugs for recreation in my opinion is an idiot. On the other hand freedom means you have the right to be act stupid. There should be no laws against drugs.

That said, a doctor should be able to prescribe any drug he believes might help a patient. For instance, a person is dying of cancer, what possible difference does it make if the doctor gives him pot or heroin? So if you have a prescription for medical Marijuana you have your guns taken away, but you can be on controlled meds like narcotics and there is no problem.

Under this ridiculous notion anyone who ever drinks alcohol should not be able to own firearms. Did I say that? It's probably coming.

Gov has no authority to remove a persons weapons IE guns over a legal act. Period.

Just because a mugger has the ability to rob you, and does, doesn't mean he has authority to do it.

In the same vein, just because gov oversteps it's authority, passes a illegal law, breaking the law of the land and happens to have paid mercenaries willing to enforce that null void decree, does not mean they ever had or have the authority do so.
