OC in Nevada

What really got me hooked on Open Carry dot org was reading real stories about people open carrying in addition to the great informational postings. How about a daily posting all could add to a ongoing thread of where did you carry today and how did it go.
We have a great report from Sabotage and Nevada carrier strip carry. I will add my report to open carrying today and one of the reasons I was not able to make the strip outing.
My wife and I were in Jo-anns fabric, Bed Bath and Beyond, Famous Dave’s, on Marks and Sunset. No real issues. Did get a very strong stare may be with some level of fright from a woman that was sitting on a bench in Famous Dave’s.
My wife was sitting next to me on my strong side and the woman was sitting next to my wife. When they called my name while I was still sitting, I helped my wife up, leaving nothing but a narrow empty space between the woman and my holstered firearm. Her eyes were about to pop out of her head. Trying to ease her concern I looked at her smiled and got up to follow my wife to our seat.
After Famous Dave’s we went to Walmart on Rainbow and 215. Been in there many times open carrying no problems.

Pharmacy across the street. At least one of the pharm techs knows me be name and I think her memory is aided by "that guy with the gun." Or maybe I come in so often for meds.

Sportsmans Warehouse. I think their gunpowder is more expensive than Scheels but Scheels is in a gun-unfriendly development so I take my business across town. Not this time, but a previous time I OCed into S.W. and bought powder, the guy behind the counter thanked me for OCing.

In the last week, I went to a few places. A breakfast restaurant, shopping (Winco), Taco Bell, Getting a smog check for the car, a hardware store, Raley's, Port of Subs... Nobody even noticed or said a word about it as far as I could tell, and that's pretty much the response I usually get. I mainly just go to the same places over and over again though.

In town the other day I even ran into some old friends from high school, and even they did not comment on it.

When I was 18 a lot more people seemed to make comments. I guess when I'm 21 people just don't notice as much. I used to get a lot of people asking if it was legal and if so what would one need to do to be able to carry. I rarely get those questions anymore, so maybe the media has educated substantially more people over the last three years.... When I do get a comment these days, it often seems to be somebody telling me they have a gun similar to mine that they like, or some other gun related comment.

A month or two ago, I went into a convenience store to pick something up around 10:30 PM or so, and one of the young guys who worked there asked, "Is that a .45?" And I said, "Nope, it's a 9mm" and he said, "Why not a .45? You know fifty cent was shot 9 times by a 9mm." So I told him, "my gun holds 19."

A month or two ago, I went into a convenience store to pick something up around 10:30 PM or so, and one of the young guys who worked there asked, "Is that a .45?" And I said, "Nope, it's a 9mm" and he said, "Why not a .45? You know fifty cent was shot 9 times by a 9mm." So I told him, "my gun holds 19."

My wife, kids and I went to Savers near Sunset Station on Saturday. We are in there ever so often looking for bargains and never a word. Yesterday a store employee walked past me by the changing rooms and asked "is that a real gun?". When I answered "yes" he stopped and seemed shocked. He then said "it is real?" or something of the kind and I said "yes". Guess he thought I was walking around with a toy .357 on my hip. He hurried off and we could see him talking to the manager and pointing at us. A while later he came up to me and said something like "it's a good thing I didn't get my paycheck today otherwise you might shoot me for it". I'm not sure that is exactly what he said, but something very close. Then he ran off again. Normally I might try to engage a person like that but to be honest, he seemed like such an idiot I didn't want to talk to him about firearms, the weather or anything else. I'm thinking of writing a letter to the store manager about it as I really didn't appreciate him bringing such public attention to my firearm. If any patron was concerned it was more likely they were by the loud public attention he was drawing to it more than it being on my hip in the first place. Most people either don't notice, or just think if one is wearing it in public there must be a reason. The world is full of morons.

I am with you, and do not wanting to bring unwanted attention to my firearm. If it is a positive conversation or questions for one example, what does one need to open carry? Then no problem.
I too have been asked when someone sat next me; if I set here, will you shoot me. I just smiled and do not say anything.
I have decided next time in such a situation my reply to those stupid questions are you going to shot me will be, only if you plan to use lethal force on me. Then I will be legal by law and obligated to defend myself. If that is not you intention, how are you today?

You know what they say; the best firearm to carry is one you are willing to carry. If it is a 380 or a 50cal revolver they both have the same stopping power if one is not comfortable carrying them and left it home.
More than likely only one of the nine shots was the lethal one. I think some of these thugs keep shooting for decoration.
Seeing videos of other controversial shootings I often wondered when did gun manufactures start mounting the sites on the side of the firearm.

@ Big Guy: I'm always baffled why my carrying a firearm on my hip opens the door for someone to make an idiotic conversation with me. I normally have no real interactions with anyone when I don't OC, but as soon as I OC I know I'm almost guaranteed to have one person talk to me or ask me a question. Not always super positive, but I've never really had a negative experience.

I OC in Bargain Pawn today. Only issue I had is now they have a sign on the door. No LOADED FIREARMS. Real big letters. Then in real small letters. Except for valid CCW holders.

No longer recognizes just OC like a couple of other gun stores signs do. I did OC with no issues from anyone in the store though.

Henderson DMV. No problem parking, didn't see a sign on the door, no line, right to the info desk, no OC problems, conducted my business and out. How can you beat that for a trip to the DMV?

I OC in the Albertson's on Blue Diamond and Decatur quite often. The In-n-Out is always a good time too. I get lots of stairs in that place. This last weekend me and Nevada Carrier road the bus from the strip to downtown ate at the Golden Gate then back without an issue.

One of these days I'm going to get a pic of me inside Wally World with my shirt covering covering my serpa rig. That way when someone post about doing the wally walk on NS I can ask "amidoingitright'? Damn thing looks like I'm carrying a brick on my side.

First time to OC was last week. OC'd around the metropolis of P-rump. No one said anything and I only saw a couple people notice that I was carrying.

Welcome to OCdotORG. I too live in Pahrump the only place I have been run out of was the Nugget and Terribles. The casinos here are as bad as or worse than the Las Vegas casinos about open carry. Everywhere else including the DMV no problems.

I always thought post offices were off limits as they are Federal property? Excuse my ignorance...

Don't carry open or concealed onto Post Office property even in the grocery store post offices. Every post office I've been in has a no firearms sign posted. You will be asking for trouble no matter what a postal employee says. Just like Walmart or any establishment the regular employees don't always know the law or corporate policy and may give wrong information/or hassle you.

Never take your firearm on Postal service property. Some of the small Post Offices are on private (commercial) property, and are manned by store employees and not government employees. Such is the case at my local Shell station. There is no problem there. If it is manned by government employees, there could be a problem. If you are in a store that has one, if I remember correctly, firearms are only banned in that portion of the facility that is leased by the government entity.
