I'm sure there is a post office martyrdom thread somewhere.
We all understand the point you make, if I may be so bold as to paraphrase, "It is really crappy that we have to fear for our lives because the preceding generations of Americans have so easily relinquished their and our rights and freedoms." Is that a good summary?

Let me get this thread back on topic....

Decided to change it up and carry in the shoulder holster today.

First stop was a convenience store to buy a few Powerball tickets (I know, I know but it's 1.3 billion man!). The clerk was talking to what I assumed was a friend of his at the counter and then just both stopped talking and sort of stared at me. I went about my business and as I was leaving I noticed a small gunbuster sign on the door and little type saying "no open carry." Whoops, I was day dreaming about winning all that money and I let my situational awareness down. Looked around at the front of the store from my car at all the various advertisement signs and crap they had in the window and about 15-20ft from the left of the entrance was a 30.07 sign in the corner. Whoops again, but it was far enough away from the entrance that any person could have easily not seen it. Clerk didn't mention it. Either way I won't be going back there again.

Grabbed an over-priced coffee and did some grocery shopping. I don't think anyone even noticed I was carrying.

It was kind of a "one time" thing. I was already talking to them, they hadn't seen the OC Glock and I surmised many of them weren't really comfortable with corporate telling them to do this. So being an easy to get along with laid back kind of person I took the friendly tack. Turned out I was right, in the short conversation we had he did mention it felt kind of awkward for him to have to stop a few and ask them about their LTC.

I learned a few things, I do a bit of writing and he offered that previous contacts on his shift had gone well with no real confrontations for which he was grateful.

Yeah I kind of figured you probably just asked out of curiosity and that's cool. Looking forward to hearing any other experiences you have in the future. Now that you've ******* it gets much easier with each time.

A lot of them want to have it both ways so they post in away that signs are hard to see so gun owners won't complain and carry.

But if anti complains they can say see we are posted.

A lot of these fence riders can be changed with a no guns no money action.

Texas is going to finally have to admit a hit on their reputation with which they snow the rest of us constantly.

Either the posted stores will show a significant loss in revenue, proving not nearly as many Texans carry guns as they would like us to believe,

Or the stores won't, proving that not nearly as many Texans give a damn about actually protecting their freedoms as they would like us to believe.

I know which way I'm betting, bless their hearts...

I think, uh ohhh, that over time two things will happen. A few people will OC without fanfare, or blood in the streets. Some of the posted business will get robbed more than the non posted. Let's not forget the massacres that brought changes to Texas carry, the get much more attention than MWAG. I pray that does not happen, but we know that robbed stores will be scratching their heads as to why they are getting robbed. The rest of us will do a face-palm.

I believe in a couple years the OCers will be subjected to handshakes, and thank you, as it is here, and probably other states where OC is he norm. But to get to where we are now Texas, if you want to OC then OC. It will not happen unless you do it, concealed carry changes little when it comes to attitudes.

Reading all the PO posts reminds me I need to buy some stamps today - sending out our January photo cards now we have received updated mailing addresses from all of our friends last month.

Going to OC, but at the Postal contractor in the back of Weirs Knox street furniture store hard by our office [emoji1].

As far as the reaction OC will get: the only publicity that will be widely spread will be negative, because the people with the media control are largely anti-gun. Even if there is nothing bad to say, the antis will say OC, like all carry and all things gun, are bad. There are far more people who publicly dislike OC (especially in the CC community, as we eat our young) so the anti view will latch on to "even the concealed carrying public dislike open carry."
Other than that, OC is a non event, which means "no good news is the same as bad news".

Just went to fill up at the Valero at Fredericksburg @ Datapoint. I pull up to the rear pump due to a car being at the first pump. I get out, lady in front gets out. She looks at me, eyes turn as wide as saucers, then she asks "Would you like me to move so you can use this pump?". I politely declined.

Is it just me or are people going out of their way to be nice all of a sudden?

When a person starts to open carry a pistol, they will learn that the old saying of "An armed society, is a polite society" becomes personal in their daily activities. It's comical sometimes how people react to you when you haven't even engaged them, that they will approach or say something to you, that at any other time you were not wearing a pistol they wouldn't even acknowledge your presence.

I find that when I Conceal carry in the cold winter weather that people treat me like a regular joe instead of a VIP. It's weird sometimes.

I don't know if it is just now I found out years ago that if one is riding bicycle with a long gun a crossed ones back the drivers of fueled power vehicles give you a wider berth.

I always figured that were just being extra nice.

Yup the weather's not really playing ball here either. During the work week I'm really only able to OC during lunch or if I go out during the day. It's probably the reason we're not seeing too many OC'ers right now. Kinda makes me wonder if the atypical start date of Jan 1st for this law was on purpose somehow.
