The very reason I don't carry in a serpa

I have seen documentation that handguns have been trapped in the serpa, requiring deswtruction of the holster to remove the gun. In EACH of these cases, the gun was placed in a Serpa that was designed for a different gun. They are MAKE, Model SPECIFIC holsters.

So are all of my leather holsters, however, they won't need to be destroyed....

Well there you have it. Results often vary from desirable when instructions are ignored. But of course, blame the product, right?

When I first started practicing with a Serpa with dummy rounds, I had that happen once or twice with a Glock. It turns out I was placing my finger along one edge of the release button, and as I drew out, my finger was pressing against the rounded part of the frame above the trigger guard. So I corrected the problem, practiced and practiced and it never happened again. I see how it could happen. Ideally, if we train enough, we'll have the movement down the same every single time. However, no human is perfect, and there are so many little nuances possible that enough of them could occur in the right combination for a finger to end up in the trigger guard. I still use a Serpa holster, and it's because I am comfortable with it and like it. I will also not deny the possibility of a finger somehow ending up in the trigger guard. The more we practice and train, the more we decrease the likelyhood of a ND, but the probability will never actually reach 0.00% especially in stressful scenarios.

I know of no holster in the world that can prevent a ND once the gun has left it.

You and others are dead on with your assessment, it is not the holster pulling the trigger! it is the person drawing the gun out of the holster placing their finger on the trigger and pulling!
This holster or any other that I know of makes you put your finger on the trigger and pull.

What happened was the user got dust into his Serpa, from shooting a carbine prone, and debris in the holster jammed up the release.
So, if you believe that you will never get foreign material in it, or will never get into a wrestling match over your firearm, well then, have at it. Your choice.
My experience leads me to a different choice.

Thanks for the advice everybody. Obviously my opinion is wrong and I don't know what I'm talking about. I guess I will throw away 17 years of weapons handling and shooting experience (about 300,000rds through pistol just with 5 years in the USMC) under professional instruction and start back at square one with the 4 weapons handling safety rules because of my issue with this one holster. When I noticed my finger doing something with this holster that was potentially very dangerous and didn't happen with any of the 35-40 other holsters I have used, I should have continued to train with it and carry with it even though it made me uncomfortable to do so and even though I had 100 other options in holsters. Next time I am thinking of posting something here that I think, with my obviously very limited experience, may help somebody avoid shooting themselves....I will forget I ever saw it. It is pretty incredible for a bunch of people who want others to accept them in public doing something they don't ever see people doing to be so closed minded to not even consider the POSSIBILITY of what I am saying to exist.

Please don't take this the wrong way but, don't be one of those guys that think just because you were in the military that you know more than others. I appreciate and thank you for your service to this great country, but please don't be that "guy"...

Seems like a lot

...rep at Bladetechs HQ in Puyallup, he told me that this was a problem with that holster and that it had led to several hundred NDs and injuries...[/url]

Hundreds of NDs?

That seems like a HUGE number.

Go easy on him...
I could understand where he's coming from...

I'm a Certified E.M.T
My neighbor is a Certified Paramedic

Do I think he may be a bit more experienced? Yes

I'm a Licensed Security Officer
My friend is a Law Enforcement Officer

Do I think she may have more experience and training? Yes

Do both of them need to be arrogant about it? NO

Thank You Sir, for the willingness to take a bullet!! Much appreciated...:D

I hear what you're saying but I am sick and tired of people who think just because they are military/Law enforcement that they know more than the common man.. I know people in the military that do some heavy stuff, but not once have they ever tried to use that in an argument. There are also alot of cops that think they know more because they are "cops" which I find really arrogant... Shoot, some of them don't even know the laws! I respect their jobs, but I don't respect some of them because of how arrogant they can be... And I will gladly say that to any Military/Law enforcement guy/girl any day...
