Tow truck driving

Had someone tell me that RTTO (Registered Tow Truck Operators) were not allowed to let their drivers go out armed, by law.

Asked them to at least cite the law, they didn't know. I cannot find any such prohibition in the law.

Could anyone here please help me clear this up? I ask because of the great minds that post here. Also I am not finding any such law. Any court cases showing one way or the other would be great also.

I'm sure you've looked through the same stuff I have online.

The RCW nor the WAC list any prohibition to a tow operator from carrying.

The Operator Manual doesn't, either. http://www.dol.wa.gov/business/vehicletransport/docs/RTTOMan.pdf

I think this is one of those "laws" that everyone talks about but can't point to it because it doesn't exist here. I believe some states (or cities) do have a prohibition because operators were aggressive in cleaning the streets of cars, some broken down, some not.

I would also say that our state would find operators in violation of RCW 9.41.300(1)(a) when they would bring impounded cars into the impound lot, since that is not open to the general public.

I could not find any prohibition either. Even talked to a pro-gun driver from another company and he does carry even while doing repos.

I seriously doubt it - have never seen such a restriction. If anyone his seen an example, please post it here with a cite.

What I have found is that any illegal/criminal act on the part of the policy holder would void the coverage as it relates to any claim arising therefrom.

Let me rephrase slightly--- using a false 'insurance requirement' claim and telling an employee they can't.

That I think is, unfortuneately, very commonplace. It spreads like wiper pushed oil on a windshield - obscuring everything until cleaned.

If I were dismissed based on false a premise, it could well become a generous bonus w/reinstatement or a gift from my now former employer - my reputation and employablility will have suffered immeasurably.
