It seems that "darwin-t" is on the wrong web-site. We favor OC'ing here, and I'm tired of the CC vs. OC arguement. The CHP/CWP(whatever you wanna call it) is another form of gun registration which isn"t covered under the second admendment, but falls under the illegal search and seizure one.:banghead:

I prefer CC over OC, but do open carry here in Virginia, in places that serve alcohol, only because in need to in order to conform with a stupid state law.

While I PREFER CC over OC, I support and defend the right to OC anywhere legal. We can argue ad nausium over which is tactically correct, but to do so is to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

We as gunowners need to championour Second Amendment rights always. We can stand together and fight as a group or we can fight each other and assist those who would take our God-given rights away. Make the right choice.

The thing that gets me about the licensing is two fold. First you have some states like Georgia where you need a license to carry open and/or concealed, which to me is an infringement on the right to keep and bear arms. At least in states like Arizona or Idaho you have another option open to use without having to ask for permission. I don't mind concealed carry being a priviledge so much as long as open carry is a right.

My second problem with the licensing is that you are still prohibited from carrying into certain places. You have to go through a background check, fingerprinting, etc etc to get the license. So you get a license saying that the local/state government trusts you to be responsible with a firearm but that doesn't mean they trust you in say a police station or court house. If they give you a license it should make every place under the issuing authority open to carry into. My drivers license allows me to drive on any public road, why doesn't my concealed license allow me to carry into any public building?

Really you like registration, certification, getting permission to exercise a right God gave you being told what kind of gun you may or may not have when where and how you are permitted to carry. Personally I am sick of it. The government has no right to have any say what so ever when where or if I carry a weapon to defend myself. I have glanced at your states laws they suck as most states do the only 2 states in the union who have it right are VA & AL.
For all you hypothetical unfounded fears can you cite any incident of any of your fears ever happening? Or are you OK with using the Sara Brady tactic of using hypothetical unfounded fears as if it was a fact. Contrary to that way of thinking just because you think it could possibly happen does not make it so. If it was I would be ruler of the Universe since I am capable of thinking that it could possibly happen. Personally I am looking forward to hearing your arguments and concerns based on actual fact. If I want to hear anti gun myths I just go to Sara Brady's website they at least are pros at telling lies about guns

open carry is a real deterrent to crime in my view. besides, i think it would bolster our image that gun owners are responsible neighbors, relatives, doctors and the average joe on the streets excercising a basic right to protect oneself.

Ialso have another thought to those who say there should be no gov't mandates. how do you feel about weapons in public places like schools? what about concealed or open carry in bars serving alcohol? do you believe the person who elects to carry a weapon into a bar has a right to consume alcohol?should we have a gov't mandate over weapons in bars where alcohol is consumed?

I agree! If you go through the trouble of obtaining a license to carry, then you should be able to carry anywhere! The only exception would be private property (a residence or similar) WHERE YOU DON"T ENTICE or advertise for commerce. I mean you should be able to go into a Walmart (private property) and any local, state or federal bldg. Including schools and bars.

I'm more than willing to prove I can handle a weapon safely and go through a criminal check if I can be trusted to carry my weapon anywhere I choose!! Open or concealed.

Carry in colleages would be great in K to 12 teachers and parents would be good. The kids do not have a 2A right so a non issue

I see no proiblem with bar carry should not drink IMO but if you do drunk or sober you are accountable for what you do. A bad shoot is a bad shoot drunk or sober

As is WA.

You know I had reservations a while back, got on the forum and asked questions like you’re doing.I can only say keep reading the entire site and soak up as much info as you can ,think it over and ask more question, research, get involved with other threads and learn more. This my friend is the approach I took, and has given me the confidence to OC more than CCW now.

Look for an OC met in your area, or set one up as a newbie (this is as I did in my area) to meet those you wish to associate with. Welcome to OCDO, hope you stick around and bring more 2[suP]nd[/suP] supporters with you.

only reason I would not OC (that I can think of) is to have any potential attacker be unaware of a counter attack/defense, which is why I have a CCW. Plus, I frequently carry kinda heavy (two guns), so I understand that people may get freaked out and believe that I think I'm the real life rambo or something. But OCing is something I support very strongly. Just my two cents.
