I was responding to the posted letter from this guy:

Mike Davis
Field Representative, So CA & So NV
National Rifle Association

He passed on the information as someone in authority to do so, but then added that we should confirm it. I didn't mention NVFAC, and recognize that Friends of NRA is a separate organization. But it appears that an NRA Field Representative is part of the loop. Indeed, the Friends of NRA website is part of his signature.

No, actually, he contacted the person/s who would have the answer, and shared the response.

" had referred your question to the local committee which produces this event. They have advised me that this facility is open carry friendly."

And, you are right, you didn't mention the NVFAC.

So he's passing on (or "sharing") information that he's not sure he can trust. That was my point. He's our Field Representative. His phone call to confirm would mean a lot more than mine would, especially if he thinks each of us is supposed to confirm for ourselves. After all, the "the local committee which produces this event" does so under his supervision.

I'm not really blaming him. He probably didn't think it was a big deal. The chance that he gives OC a serious thought is slim, and he probably doesn't realize how many of us support it. He probably never expected that he was writing an open letter to the OC community.

Huh? No, it looks like he did exactly what he did, asked the committee head (person responsible) and suggested that persons follow up with the venue.

Each person who DOES 'give OC a serious thought' and would/will be attending should definitely call him and inform him. I know up here, Carrie knows, because we tell her every chance we get.

But, as for the "NVFAC" comment, read the thread title.

My edit was too late for your reply. As Field Representative for the NRA, the local Friends of NRA actually works under his supervision. He has the responsibility to confirm what he may pass on from them unless he trusts it, which he admitted he did not.

David I tossed in the NVFAC in the thread title as that is the place I first came across the dinner info. And because it is not only listed in the forum over there but also in the newsletter for march. It would be nice though if someone from the NVFAC would respond to that thread with something along the lines of,.... Good question lets also look into it.

Odd. I didn't see that statement of his. Where was it?

What he did, was pass on the information without judging it, but suggest each participant confirm that information. That isn't the same as 'admitted he did not trust it.'

When it comes from the supervisor of the source, I believe it should be the same.

Santa Fe Station answer

I emailed the hotel and asked them. Here is the response:

XXX

Thank you for your question about firearms. Even though we respect the rights of gun owners, we do not allow weapons to be carried open or concealed on our property.

Hope you enjoy your time here at the Santa Fe and again thank you for contacting us with your question.

I guess that answers that.

...and my response

Jason

Thank you for your quick response.

In light of your answer, as a Life Member of the NRA, I will be asking the organization not to hold any events at your venue. I will advise others of your answer as well. I believe your establishment has the right to set policy, however you must realize that if it goes against my rights, I can’t in good conscience do business with you.

Best regards

Mike

It has been asked if this property is OC/CC friendly. I have emailed them about this question and below is the response:

This being the case, as an NRA Life member of about 30 years, I am asking that a new venue be found for this function. We in no way as an organization should patronize an establishment that does not allow us our inalienable rights.

Regards

So the NRA Field Representative passed on bad information from his Friends of NRA volunteers. That's pretty poor oversight on such an important question.

I have worked as a staff member on Friends of NRA events in the past. now, I will not be attending this one because of the very poorly chosen venue.

The funny thing is I was getting ready to send in money tonight. We thought it would be a good time. Now no way. Not unless this is moved. If the NRA holds this at the Fe and the nvfac goes along with it then I will not renew. There are several places they could hold this that are gun friendly.places people here not the NRA have had the doors opened to.

I just emailed the NVFAC and asked them to urge the dinner be moved or withdraw Association support for it.

I await a response.

Good grief. Looks like Mike Davis got bad info from the FoNRA committee guy.

Bad situation. I sure hope the venue is moved or the Sante Fe comes to its senses and reverses its decision.

The FoNRA committee guy should immediately address this issue!

Can you post the email address of the Santa Fe Director of Security, Jason Hudson?? And preferably also the email address of his supervisor and/or hotel manager??

Does anyone have an email address for the FoNRA dinner coordinator?

The Response from Don Turner follows:

"Excellent point. I will make that known to the NRA liaison who sets up the dinners. I guess it is hard to find a place in Vegas that isn’t connected to a casino…at least that has been their response."

I'm guessing that they did not think of this when it was set up. This kind of thing needs to be a priority with them when setting up events. Afterall it is what we as an organization are all about, gun rights.

This shows that a little effort instead of just jumping on here and complaining (I'm as guilty as anyone) goes a long way toward correcting things. Let's hope it works.

Larry,

Santa Fe is one of the many Stations Casinos. While I would love to see it happen, I think it is highly unlikely that we can get them to change their corporate policy. I am certain that this is way beyond the local security guy.

This is very unfortunate. You might have thought the people involved would have learned from the experience of the NVFAC meeting that was originally booked at the Silverton and had to be moved.
