The moderator asked that additional discussion of this topic appear in a new thread, so here it is.Long time reader but I registered today to post this:
My son and OC'd at Fuddrucker's on Duke Street in Alexandria last night. We had done so several times before so we both were stunned when the manager came up to us (at our table, after we had ordered and paid but before we were served) and asked if we were police officers. When he informed us that company policy only allowed police officers to carry in the restaurant, I asked for our money back. As he was getting our money, my son and I discussed the possibility that we had been transported to an alternative universe. The manager returned with our money and stated again that it was company policy. I told him that we were leaving and would not be back but that I did not believe that the company had a policy forbidding OCing by non-police as I had OC'd in this very store many times and that I had never had a problem doing so at any other Fuddrucker's in the area. He turned and walked away without a word and we left.
We ended up eating at Lone Star down Duke Street where we Oc'd without incident.
I just received the following response from Fuddruckers corporate headquarters regarding their policy with respect to carrying in their stores:
Iomitted the name of the writer for privacy reasons, but the meesage is unambiguous---no weapons in Fuddruckers. Please accept my apologies for the delayed response.
Open carry laws are changing in various states. Therefore, restaurants are more clearly communicating their policies to guests. Fuddruckers has had a ‘No Weapons’ policy for several years but it wasn’t being enforced in all locations. By enforcing its no-weapons policy, Fuddruckers is enforcing its rights as a private business to create the sort of dining environment we believe best suits and appeals to all or the majority of our guests.
If you’d like to further discuss this matter, please feel free to contact Mary Hamill, Vice President of HR, at the number below.
On behalf of Fuddruckers, Inc., we want express our sincerest appreciation for your patronage. We are truly sorry if our policy has forced you or your family to find an alternate dining facility.
Regard,
