ScottyT (31 October 2008 Friday 12:34) opines:

Well damn. No harm done, ...
I'm not so sure about that. Every such report that appears here is now open to question. "It's just some loon playing a joke, if not an outright lie ...". The people who are already on our side may be understanding about it, but we need to convince more people, not just congratulate ourselves on our correct opinions. That is going to be harder to do now, though by how much I don't know.

It will be interesting to see what the next few references to OCDO in the national media look like.

For those of you who think I'm wrong ... I do hope you're right.

Further deponent sayeth not.

regards,

GR

I think it would be wise to go back to the first page and edit the original post. I would not suggest deleting it, but rather editing it at the top with and directing people to page 2 of the thread and your explanation here.

I held myself back on this, and am now glad. There are always rogue individuals and groups, but by and large the Dutch tend to be tolerant people, and not prone to rabble-rousing, esp. insomeone else's country. Still, I'm not surprised to hear about the "soon you'll be like the rest of the world, and that includes no guns!" Like most Euro-socialists, they are anti-gun and oh-so-self righteous about it. (This may sound defensive, but the Brits are even worse !!!)

A few years ago I spoke to a local businesswoman who clearly had a Dutch accent, so we talked about things over there. She said she left Holland "because the liberals have ruined it" and I commiserated with her, since the same seems to be happening here.

We shouldn't be surprised that foreign socialists are campaigning here. This is a watershed election and socialism is an international movement; a type of infectious parasite that moves from host to host, quietly weakening it and sapping its vitality.
We face difficult times, and should not be surprised the 2nd amendment is under attack. Much more than that is at stake....

What if anything of the detention and charges of the hacker/user of an unsecured computer can be offered.

How did he get on to OCDO without your password? Are you allowed to use govt. computer or are you going to have problems too?

I too am reserving judgement for now.

I have made an edit to the OP with a reference to page 2.

Look everybody believe whatever post you like. Once I was made aware of the OP I posted the TRUE ACCOUNTS. I was negligent to the fact I left my computer unattended. I'll take whatever punishment comes my way and for good reason.

While I may not have hundreds of post like others I'm certainly no troll nor a trouble maker. I've met some of you at OC dinners and many more at the VCDL picnic. Sure I've worded a comment or two to others dislike but who here hasn't.

The point is I did what I new was right and stated what happened. Blast me all you like, lord knowsI got it coming. Feel free to call Joe's and verify that no incident occurred. I've learned way too much info here to have not at least gotten the managers name if such an incident had occurred. Getting names to back things up is important am I right?

I can't make any of you believe what you don't choose to already believe. All I can say is I'm sorry for whats happened and keep saying so till I'm blue in the face. I'm a man a principal and when I've done wrong I'm quick to say so and deal with the consequences.

We all screw up sometimes. Not everyone who screws up mans up and admits it, expresses a willingness to accept the consequences and apologizes for their part in a bad situation. While this is not what we want to have happened, having read Ballbusters posts for nearly a year now, although we have never met, there is no reason I have for not giving him the benefit of the doubt on this and accepting his apology to the forum and believing he is just as honorable a man as I believed he was yesterday. Obviously I am putting myself out there by saying this if it were ever found that both the OP and the apology were bogus, but sometimes you have to take a little leap of faith and hope your instincts are right.

I'll just throw this out there too. The reason many of us believed this story, which in hindsight as Dutchuncle pointed out is almost "too good to be true" so to speak, is because it was Ballbuster who posted it. If certain other people or a noob had posted it we would have had our antennae up and been looking at it sideways and playing 20 questions to validate the story. That tells me that Ballbuster has a reputation on the forum such that many of us trust him even if what he posts may throw up red flags from someone else. Just something to think about as you ponder this situation and his apology.

Lastly, I'll say that this situation is also instructive. We must be careful about taking things at face value even if it is from someone we trust and who has a sold reputation around here. It is always a "trust but verify"situation.

I commend you for your honesty and quickly taking every reasonable action to fix this and to state what really occured. I wonder how many others would have been as quick to post that any other person had gained access to their ID and posted a false story as you did. Again, I commend you for this action!

I'm with ya Bull. Sorry you are gonna be busted for leaving your DOD comp unlocked, and maybe also for being on an unauthorized website during duty hours. Good luck to you. You are still family as far as I'm concerned.

Unfortunately we are limited by the printed word and do not have the benefit of drinking coffee and looking each other in the eye.

Having been on the outside looking in at a major "tall tale" that got multi-state coverage recently, I admit to be somewhat sensitized. I'm sure that no one finds pleasure in this - particularly you.

I'll accept your replies and apology at face value. I'm only one man but please don't let me down. No more needs to be said IMO. Be yourself here, good luck with any fallout.

The coffee invitation stands.

I am a newb and apologize for any role I had in accelerating this post. With the election, I am highly sensitized to Constitutional issues right now. Forgive me. I thought a post from a hundred+ post member was probably ok.

Well, this is what home computers are for.

I do enough BS'ing at work with my mouth. I don't need to start leaving an electronic trail of BS on my work computer.

Maybe you can get the movie rights for the first story? It was much more entertaining. But I also see an interesting plot twist now.

Lock your keyboard whenever you are going to be away from it. It will protect you and our country. You know this.

Apology accepted. Go forth and sin no more.

There hostess asked what the "D-66" meant and one gentleman said it was the Democratic party number in the Netherlands. With a puzzled look on her face she said "Netherlands". The gentleman said they are all from the Netherlands here volunteering for the Obama campaign. With that she said Oh. I looked at my wife and cousin and said thats strange. My cousin then mentioned if that was even legal and said I have no idea.
Is that one of the 57 state that obama visited?
