Nevada (Open) Carry Pamphlet

This is a question I've got also.

Nevada does not recognize my CCW from Florida for some reason so that only leaves open carry as an option in Nevada. Am I interpreting that correctly?

As you see, open carry is legal in Nevada. There is some restrictions some pointed out here, check out the pamphlet for other restrictions. Staying in Las Vegas and open carrying without causing a problem is fairly easy. However, most hotels and casinos do not allow firearms in their facility. It is not a law just their property rule.
Most are polite in asking to have the firearm secured. If the person does not comply they can only ask you to leave, if one does not leave, they then can issue a trespassing warning, if one still does not comply they can call the police and have the non-complier arrested for trespassing. The arrest will be the same as being arrested for not complying to put a shirt on. There is no Nevada law that keeps legally carried firearms out of casinos. Just their facility rules.
Read some of the posting on the thread (where did you carry and how did it go) and you will see many here open carry all over Las Vegas. I have not been tossed out of any non-casino restaurant or general type shopping facility open carrying in Las Vegas. The law is the same for any legally carrying visitor.

Please let me know if the following assumption is correct.

I can have my pistol concealed in the trunk or glove box loaded? I believe there is a law in regard to have the pistol concealed and in person while in a vehicle.

You are correct, it just can't be concealed upon your person.

If you downloaded before 2:05 PM today, I have actually just made another revision. I organized the federal law section better by dividing it into a Federal Preemption section and a Federal Restrictions section, and made the formatting more consistent. (12:45 PM) Then I realized I put KA instead of KS for Kansas (1:40 PM) Then I changed "blood alcohol level above .10" to "blood alcohol concentration of 0.10 or higher" to be more technically correct. (2:05PM)

Question on OC

Is a gun inside its case considered as concealed? I just bought a new gun and I would like to go to a shooting range, can I bring the gun inside its case placed at the backseat of the car? Will it be similar to a gun inside a briefcase? Any reply is appreciated. Sorry guys, I'm a newbie...

You're right. Should have said jacket or pocket. I corrected my original post.

As stated in the Pamphlet : In a vehicle, a weapon may be concealed anywhere within the vehicle, or it can be out in the open within the vehicle. The only place it cannot be when in a vehicle is concealed upon a person, such as under a jacket or in a pocket, unless that person has a concealed firearm permit.

As far as I know, holstered, on your hip is also good to go, as long as you don't cover it with clothing. But there has been some discussion on this too.

One more question if I may ask, just got worried about wright's reply that once I leave the vehicle, it's a different story, is that also true in case it is in the gun's plastic case? A sample scenario say getting off the car with me carrying the case with the gun inside walking from the parking lot into the gun range?

By the letter of the law, it would be illegal. The law makes no distinction about the method of concealment. Some have other feelings, but personally, I won't take the chance. It is up to you however. There are many flaws with the current laws, this is one of them.

I have read the pamphlet, the NRS, and nearly all of the posts contained in this thread. There is a wealth of information here, many thanks. However I still have a question. Are there any restrictions regarding the method of carry when OCing? Specifically, can one use an IWB holster and still be considered to be carrying openly if there is no covering garment? I've had a CCW for over four years but have only recently started to consider open carry. I don't want to do something stupid on my maiden voyage.

First, welcome to OC Dot org. doing your research, great. I am weak on the exact definition of the law wording. I am sure you will get a more defined answers as others who are more on top of the how the law is worded reply to your post. With that said it is my understanding if any part of the firearm is showing you are considered to be open carrying. If only the butt of the gun is showing I believe it is considered open carried. If you have a CCW I would not worry about it. I carry open 99% of the time and sometimes end up with a jacket partly covering my firearm. It has never happen however if I was stopped by an LEO and questioned I would ask him to make a determination if he considered my firearm open carried or concealed, regardless of his answer I would be legal.
For what it is worth I am of the opinion if you are going to open carry get a good retention holster and wear it in a way some paranoid anti gun person does not decide you were a bad guy with poorly concealed gun in his waist. A hypothetical situation and may never happen, just my opinion.

I agree with Mach 25. Not only will a standard OWB be more comfortable, but it doesn't give the appearance of a poorly concealed firearm. This is completely beside any legal issues (it is technically legal,) not that that has anything to do with whether or not you will be harassed by Opinion Enforcement Officers.

New to opencarry.org, but not new open carry. This is great, printed a couple to pass out. I live in NLV, spend a lot of time alone at warehouse near Rancho & Cheyenne (which is Las Vegas). T12 Spinal Cord Injury in 2008 from a motorcycle accident left me partially paralyzed from waist down. Have open carried since 2009. LEO's have praised me for my doing it. Seems the ones in public that have said something to me think I have special privileges because I am in a wheelchair or they think I am ex-military (I am not). At first I would just smile and nod, but I have learned that if I take a couple extra minutes and "educate" them on THEIR rights and the Nevada Laws (that just because I am in a wheelchair DOES NOT make me any different that they are, I just get a better parking spot than they do) most, if not everyone I have spoken to about this starts to beam with pride, as if I have helped them remember how proud they should be to be an American. I open carry a SW9F in a yaqui holster.
